The new cyberlis.com

This week I wanted to take the opportunity to let you know about some changes with the corporate site!

Our corporate site is now hosted on SharePoint with Office 365. You can check out the site at www.cyberlis.com. Overall I am very pleased with what Microsoft has done with their public site templates for SharePoint 2013. They are clean which is what I was going for from a site design perspective.

Just Do It!

Over the course of my career, I've garnered a reputation for "getting it done". That's lovely.  But I have always wondered what that meant. I'm not really that special. So I ask myself what is it that I do that ensures that the work gets done where others have failed?

April Fools!

I'm actually taking the holiday weekend off...

See you next week!

Order's Up!

Have you ever actually paid attention to your food server while at a restaurant? I do all the time because I have a heavy respect for those who work in the food service industry. Tips were my source of survival while I was going to university.

I can't take it anymore...

Coping with stress. It's an important skill for a project manager to master. A project manager who can't cope with stress will end up in a situation where they can no longer function in their role. If you love what you do and want to be a PM for the long haul, you need to sort this out.

Don't bug me....

Software is never buggy.

Ok. Now that you've finished wiping up the beverage that just snorted onto your monitor, we can look at this topic a little more seriously.

Do as I say...

If you want to succeed as a project manager, you need to understand that you can't do it all on your own, nor should you. Effective delegation is one of the trickiest skills for a new PM to master. If you do it right, you end up with a stronger team. If done poorly, folks will be throwing darts at your effigy when your back is turned.

To begin, let's get some obvious w's (and an h) out of the way.

Oh and if these aren't ridiculously obvious to you ...

The Seven Deadly Sins of Project Management

Don't panic, I'm not getting all religious on you, but I thought it would be fun this week to do a fun thought experiment with a very well known archetype.

If you check out the wiki on the Seven Deadly Sins, you will find that they have evolved many times over the years. I decided to go with Pope Gregory I / Dante's version and try to relate this allegory to the problems of modern Project Managers.

Here's Dante's List:

Trust me...

How many times have you heard that one?

Trust is a tricky thing for a project manager. Once we have been burnt enough times, we learn not to trust so easily. We approach new teams and situations with more wariness. We follow up instead of assuming something was done on time and to specifications. But when we to get to know a team well enough to trust them and to gain their trust, things to go much more smoothly indeed.

The key to developing trust comes with understanding what ...
